Findlay Market’s “Green” Tomato

Stanard Design Partners recently developed a sub-brand for Findlay Market’s sustainability initiative. Dubbed “Greening The Market”, the brand turns their iconic tomato green – a play off of their parent brand. Materials developed include window graphics at the market’s entranceways, “participating merchant” stickers, branded recycling and compost containers, and signage for the market’s new “earth tubs”.

Findlay Market’s new “Earth Tubs”

The market’s efforts revolved around an ambitious recycling and composting effort, including the installation of two large “earth tubs”. The earth tubs are designed to appropriately accommodate the market’s vegetable and compostable wastes, given their unique urban setting. The earth tubs are the first of their kind in the greater Cincinnati region.

But the sustainability initiative goes beyond these specific efforts, including plans for identifying ways of increasing the energy efficiency of the market through an energy audit, encouraging urban agriculture through the development of urban gardens, and reducing the market’s carbon footprint by developing a food processing and packaging facility for locally produced foods. Although some of these projects are still in the planning stages, they all speak to the shared goal of “Greening The Market”.

Stanard Design Partners recently completed the Findlay Market five year progress report, recapping the five years since the Corporation for Findlay Market has been managing the market. Looking to develop a report that reflected the personality of the market, Stanard Design Partners developed a design that uses food as a visual metaphor for the improvements made to the market and the Corporation for Findlay Market’s plans for the future. Titled “Momentum & Milestones”, the report also incorporates their icon – the tomato – in a playful and inventive way. If you’re a “Friend of Findlay Market”, look for it in your mailbox!

Stunning New 3CDC Web Site Puts Cincinnati On Display

3CDC

Stanard Design Partners and Atlas Design & Technology have unveiled the redesigned 3CDC website at 3CDC.org. Special emphasis was given to the use of photography, putting a reenergized Cincinnati on Display. “Finding great photos of 3CDC projects wasn’t that challenging” says Davis Stanard, design partner at Stanard Design. “Their projects are all dramatic, whether they’re public works like Fountain Square or signature condo developments.”

“What we wanted the new site to catch most of all”, says Cynthia Stanard, design partner at Stanard Design, “was the vision of Cincinnati that 3CDC embodies – not just the vision of what Cincinnati could be tomorrow, but what it is today – a city with a thriving and vibrant urban heart.” The new site features some of 3CDC’s success stories, including the redeveloped Fountain Square and Gateway Quarter, alongside future projects, like the redesigned Washington Park. In addition to the dramatic use of photography on the home page, special features include a unique project scrollbar, allowing visitors to browse a variety of 3CDC projects, and a news publishing tool for keeping the site current.

“Seeing what 3CDC has already done, and what’s in development, makes me very excited for the direction Cincinnati is headed in” says Davis Stanard. “And we’re proud to be playing a role in that.”
